There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is banned. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently required to cross, there are ways around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, highlights 150 slots and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel complex that contains numerous conveniences aside from the gambling den, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
