The act of living in Zimbabwe is somewhat of a risk at the moment, so you might think that there would be little appetite for going to Zimbabwe’s casinos. In reality, it seems to be operating the opposite way, with the critical economic circumstances leading to a higher desire to bet, to try and find a quick win, a way from the problems.

For nearly all of the locals subsisting on the meager local money, there are two common types of wagering, the national lottery and Zimbet. As with most everywhere else in the world, there is a national lotto where the chances of winning are remarkably small, but then the prizes are also very high. It’s been said by financial experts who look at the concept that most do not buy a card with an actual expectation of profiting. Zimbet is founded on one of the national or the United Kingston soccer divisions and involves predicting the results of future games.

Zimbabwe’s casinos, on the other shoe, pander to the exceedingly rich of the country and sightseers. Up till a short while ago, there was a considerably substantial tourist business, built on safaris and trips to Victoria Falls. The economic woes and associated conflict have carved into this market.

Amongst Zimbabwe’s gambling dens, there are 2 in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has five gaming tables and slot machines, and the Plumtree gambling den, which has only slot machine games. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has only slots. Mutare has the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, the two of which contain table games, slots and video machines, and Victoria Falls has the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, both of which have gaming machines and blackjack, roulette, and craps tables.

In addition to Zimbabwe’s gambling dens and the aforementioned talked about lottery and Zimbet (which is quite like a pools system), there are also 2 horse racing tracks in the state: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the 2nd city) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Seeing as that the economy has diminished by beyond forty percent in the past few years and with the connected poverty and conflict that has come about, it isn’t known how healthy the vacationing industry which is the backbone of Zimbabwe’s gambling dens will do in the next few years. How many of them will survive until conditions improve is basically not known.
