There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel complex that highlights numerous luxuries accompanying the casino, which provides ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight tables.
